Cheston Hales was Caught Being Good one morning during breakfast. Cheston saw that the trash can liner had dropped into the trashcan, and he put his trash to the side and reached into the can to grab the bag and put it back on the proper way! Many students would have continue to toss their trash away with no regard to whether or not a liner was in the can. Many adults who would have had to clean up the mess are very thankful that Cheston took the time to get it right! Way to go Cheston! Keep up the good work:)

Recently Lauren Shamblin, Program Coordinator of the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition came to Belwood to present Tar Wars to our 5th graders. Tar Wars is a tobacco education program offered at no cost to schools and meets all the requirements for tobacco education laid out by the State. The program cover cigarettes, vaping, and other tobacco products, and discuss the implications for students’ health, finances, and family if they choose to engage with these products. This was a fun, interactive preventative program that helps students make good choices before they reach middle school and their likelihood of engaging with tobacco increases. We are thankful for people in our community who care about the future mental and physical well being of our young people!

Thank you John Grooms and Family at County Financial Insurance for being our Partners in Education! Mr. and Mrs. Grooms recently came to Belwood with a generous monetary donation and an enormous supply of crayons, both of which are greatly needed and appreciated!

SONIC SPIRIT NIGHT TONIGHT
4 TO 8 PM

Belwood had a special visitor yesterday. Lieutenant Brian Brannon, C.H.A.M.P.S. Instructor, talked to students about their self-esteem and how it is connected to making positive and negative choices.
Students had a lot of fun, learned great information about being successful in life, and gained an understanding of the importance of making informed decisions. Thank you Gordon County Sheriff's Office for being dedicated to implementing the C.H.A.M.P.S. program in all our elementary schools.

Belwood's 2023 Red Ribbon Week Art Contest winner is Caroline Nasco, 4th grade student in Ms. Johnson's homeroom. Congratulations Caroline!
We are so proud of you!
Art contest winners will be honored by the Gordon Chamber and Mannington Mills. In addition to the annual Art Poster, the winning art will be on display at the Harris Art Center. The winning recipients and their families will be honored at a Art Reception held at the Harris Art Center on Monday, October 23 at 4:30.

SONIC SPIRIT NIGHT TONIGHT 4-8 PM

Belwood Elementary enjoyed supporting Gordon Central's Homecoming Week Spirit Day!

Sonoraville High School FFA students visited first grade on Thursday Sept. 21st for National Teach Agriculture Day. SHS students read a book about the life cycle of a plant. BES students loved having these students visit and expressed interests in taking agricultural classes in high school.
Students listened to a book about plants with Harley and Maddie.
Students received coloring pages from Matthew and Willie.

Cailen Ricks was Caught Being Good last week. Belwood had two buses that had to combine onto one. He helped the bus driver and bus riders by showing them how to navigating the extra students. Cailen demonstrated his leadership skills by volunteering to help get things organized and by using his strong communication abilities! Thank you Cailen for all you did to help!

Amaia Reyes- was Caught Being Good at Belwood this week. Amaia was picking up trash on the sidewalk and taking it to the trash can without being asked. Taking initiative means being able to see what needs to be done and deciding to finish the task on your own without waiting for someone else to request you to do it. Learning to take initiative is a behavior that helps kids navigate their lives with courage and optimism. Way to go Amaia showing initiative at school!

Kriz Ramos-Temaj was Caught Being Good recently. Kriz saw an upset PreK student who was crying and offered to translate so the upset student could get the comfort and care that she needed! The ability to recognize emotions in others, and to understand other people's perspectives on a situation is such a valuable life skill. We are so proud of Kriz!

Mr. Terry Allee visited the students at Belwood Elementary School to celebrate Johnny Appleseed's 249th birthday! Students were enamored with Mr. Allee's portrayal of the famous American Pioneer! Thank you Mr. Allee for making history come to life for our students!

School administrators have a critical leadership role to play in helping students become good readers. Reading aloud helps students learn how to use language to make sense of the world; it improves their listening skills, vocabulary and comprehension.
Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children also stimulates their imagination and motivates students to read. Thank you, Mr. Fox, for visiting Ms. Henson's PreK classroom to read The Cow That Went Oink, an amazing book about respecting differences!

Belwood had it's first Pajama and Hat day on Friday, Sept. 1st! If your student missed it, don't worry because another pajama and hat day is right around the corner on Friday, Sept. 29th! Did you know there are many good reasons for schools to have spirit and dress up days? More than just creating good vibes, school spirit and dress up days bring together students, staff, and even families, making everyone feel like they're part of a strong and connected community. This feeling of belonging leads to increased student attendance, achievement, involvement, and confidence.
All GREAT reasons to wear PJ's to school:)
