Our first "JOLLY JARS" (formally known as gift jars) have arrived at Belwood! We have a small Christmas village, a Jeep duck jar and some Christmas potpourri ready for Winterfest. If your family is able, please send in at least one Jolly Jar donation. Special shout out to the very creative idea of renaming the gift jars from a Belwood supporter!

September Character students were recognized October 5th with a special breakfast provided by our local Chick-fil-a restaurant. CFA Calhoun also provides the curriculum Core Essentials, which we use to promote core values in our students. Core values are personal ethics or ideals that guide us when making decisions, building relationships and solving problems. The core value for September was Friendship. Friendship was defined as using your words and actions to show others you care. If you want to have a friend, you must first learn to be a good friend, and these students must already be on their way to knowing how to be a good friend! We are so proud of you all! September Award winners are: Kora White Timber Duncan Ronnie Chavez Livi Farmer Brady Hansard Dezzy Edwards Kora White Gracie Russell Brock Bloodworth Natalie McNabb Owen Richardson Bryce Fuller Lily Owen Charlee Mulkey Jose Mendoza Hernandez Hollis Bloodworth Amberlee Hall Brooklyn Ayala Harper Fox Leonardo Gomez Shelby Winslett Roger Alezano Harper Free Maggie Eagan Carson Williams Sailor Van Dyke Makenzlee Farrell Sofia Nicolas Sanchez

Let's give this fine young man a huge shout out for his kind efforts. Dylan Reyes was Caught Being Good at recess recently. When Dylan noticed a classmate did not want to stop playing and come inside, he took the initiate to talk his classmate into following the request of the teacher. This is amazing! It takes a lot of self-control to stop doing something when you don't want to, and we are so thankful for Dylan and his help in explaining this to the other student.

During Circus McGurkus Monday during specials, students are shown here having fun working on fine motor skills. Each student had to hop their frog in the "pond" for their class to win! Did you know working on fine motor skills can lead to improved development in thinking, language, communication, emotional expression and self-regulation? All of these skills are needed for kids to become successful adults!

Cheston Hales was Caught Being Good one morning during breakfast. Cheston saw that the trash can liner had dropped into the trashcan, and he put his trash to the side and reached into the can to grab the bag and put it back on the proper way! Many students would have continue to toss their trash away with no regard to whether or not a liner was in the can. Many adults who would have had to clean up the mess are very thankful that Cheston took the time to get it right! Way to go Cheston! Keep up the good work:)

Recently Lauren Shamblin, Program Coordinator of the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition came to Belwood to present Tar Wars to our 5th graders. Tar Wars is a tobacco education program offered at no cost to schools and meets all the requirements for tobacco education laid out by the State. The program cover cigarettes, vaping, and other tobacco products, and discuss the implications for students’ health, finances, and family if they choose to engage with these products. This was a fun, interactive preventative program that helps students make good choices before they reach middle school and their likelihood of engaging with tobacco increases. We are thankful for people in our community who care about the future mental and physical well being of our young people!

Belwood had a special visitor yesterday. Lieutenant Brian Brannon, C.H.A.M.P.S. Instructor, talked to students about their self-esteem and how it is connected to making positive and negative choices. Students had a lot of fun, learned great information about being successful in life, and gained an understanding of the importance of making informed decisions. Thank you Gordon County Sheriff's Office for being dedicated to implementing the C.H.A.M.P.S. program in all our elementary schools.
