Working in teams, students explored their surroundings and identified examples of living and nonliving components of an ecosystem. They observed organisms, examined environmental conditions, and documented interactions such as competition, predation, and relationships between organisms and their habitats.
The activity allowed students to apply classroom concepts to a real-world environment while developing observation, teamwork, and scientific investigation skills.

For Unplugged Wednesday, students in Mr. Skiffen's AP World History class used the "HIPPO" method to source important documents that they have ready from 9th grade and now. Students looked at excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble of the Constitution, and the Declaration of the Rights of Man from the French Revolution to learn about historical context, intended audience, purpose, point of view, and information outside the documents. This information will help students on their Document Based Questions on the AP World History exam in the spring.
Students began class with a warmup focused on creating strong titles for news stories before moving into a discussion about interviewing. They worked on drafting interview questions and learning how to properly prepare for and conduct an interview.
These skills help students think like journalists as they learn to ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and share meaningful stories with others.

At Gordon County Schools, we know that providing for your family can sometimes be challenging. The Backpack Buddy Program is designed to help families stretch their food budgets by sending home shelf stable snacks each Friday.
Each school age child enrolled in the program will receive a small bag of food items to take home in their backpack. These snacks are generously donated by local churches, and participating churches only receive the total number of bags needed; they do not receive any family names or identifying information.

One of the stations also helped students prepare for their microscope quiz. At this station, students practiced labeling the parts of a microscope and reviewed the job of each part. This gave them extra practice with microscope vocabulary and proper microscope use.
Overall, the lab gave students hands-on experience using microscopes and helped reinforce the skills and concepts learned in class.
Gordon Central High School students in Mr. Rapier’s English class started the year by using reading, reflection, and conversation to support their writing.
Students read an article about goals and participated in The Line Game, an activity that gave them the opportunity to share openly about their personal experiences. This will help students share their feelings and thoughts brought out by the activity to help guide their writing.
It was a meaningful way to build classroom connections while helping students find their voice as writers.

Applications are now open for the 2027 U.S. Senate Youth Program, a unique educational experience for outstanding high school juniors and seniors interested in leadership, civic engagement, and careers in public service.
Eligible Georgia juniors and seniors who hold a qualifying high-level leadership position during the 2026–2027 school year are encouraged to apply. Selected delegates will participate in Washington Week, March 6–13, 2027.
