📚✨ Exciting things happening in our classrooms! Our students recently explored the “Five Factors of Effective Schools” and took that knowledge to heart by designing safe and orderly classroom spaces. They sketched their ideal setups and then brought those visions to life using Legos! This hands-on activity sparked fantastic discussions about what makes a learning environment effective and conducive to safety. It’s incredible to see their creativity and critical thinking in action! #TogetherSHS #FutureEducators

As a part of Dalton State College’s ongoing efforts to support local school systems, they invited high school Counselors & STEM faculty from (Calhoun City Schools/Gordon County Schools) to visit campus this fall for a special STEM-focused tour. Dalton State’s STEM programs are well-equipped, and students have a level of access to these hands-on resources that is unusual for undergraduates, like taking part in faculty research. DSC is eager to showcase what they have to offer students, both for dual enrollment and as potential incoming freshmen. Our SHS team had the opportunity to explore the facilities, interact with DSC faculty and students, and gain a deeper understanding of the educational opportunities at Dalton State. #TogetherSHS #TogetherGCS #GordonCountySchools

This past Saturday, the SHS Interact Club went to Rock Bridge Community Church to help with the huge biennial recycling event sponsored by Keep Calhoun-Gordon County Beautiful. Our students helped with collecting tires and loading them into a semi-truck trailer as well as collecting plastics and old paint. We had 8 students who worked hard to make our community a better place to live!

Last week, Sonoraville High School teacher Katie Farley and district Educational Diagnostician Natasha Hall took students from both high schools on a tour of the GNTC Floyd campus through the High School High Tech program. They were able to explore these program areas: healthcare, welding, cosmetology, auto collision repair, instrumentation and controls, and auto fundamentals. This looked like an extremely informative and interactive tour, and we appreciate these educators giving students opportunities to explore future potential careers. #TogetherWeLearn #TogetherGCS #GordonCountySchools

Sonoraville High School has teamed up with Helping Hands Ending Hunger, the Chattanooga Food Bank, and Sonoraville Baptist Church to create a food pantry here at SHS. Today was our first delivery and students from the SHS Interact Club, Beta Club, and Football Team helped to unload and organize the pantry. We are blessed to be able to assist our families in need. On Fridays, student volunteers will help pack food into bags that will go home with students each week. We also hope to host a drive through food pantry for our community periodically throughout the school year. If you have a student at SHS and would like to receive a bag on Fridays, please click the link below. https://forms.office.com/r/HqvwHJdMtU
