Please congratulate the following students who won at FBLA at FLC. It is not common to have this many winners at FLC especially since these students are new to FBLA and this was their first competition. These students worked hard on their own time and had countless hours of after school meetings to prepare for their events. These scores are a true testament to their hard work and dedication. Layla Norris -Client Service 5th place. Brianna Alvarez, Morgon Guyton, Emma Johnson- Intro to Social Media Strategy 1st place. Ivy Bone- Social Media Strategies 3rd place. Honorable Mention: Rushi Patel- Business Ethics 7th place.

December to Remember
Good Afternoon Gordon County Schools families, We want to make you aware of recent activities and hoaxes that have been rapidly spreading across the state today. There is a new "challenge'' that references threats of violence on high school campuses. There have not been any threats made against our schools in the GCS system. We work closely with local police departments in our school communities to monitor these types of trends to ensure our schools remain safe. Please know, that should a threat of harm be made to any school within our system, it will be taken seriously and all emergency response protocols will be put into place. This “challenge” is yet another example of a national trend that encourages participation in the spread of false or misleading information. These types of messages disrupt the learning in our schools and create fear amongst our GCS community. As a system, we remain committed to the safety and security of all our students and staff. If you become aware of any concerning messages or behavior, please report it to school administrators and local police immediately. Thank you, Gordon County Schools Communications

We are pleased to announce the Class of 2023 graduation date and excited to start planning this celebration for our Seniors! Gordon County Schools’ Class of 2023 Graduation Ceremonies will be held at the Dalton Convention Center Saturday, May 27th. Sonoraville High School’s ceremony will begin at 10:00am and Gordon Central’s ceremony will start at 4:00pm. As the date approaches, specific information will be provided by each high school. Both high schools received feedback from parent & student surveys and their school governance teams, which heavily supported holding the ceremonies at this venue. Graduation is an important milestone for students; therefore, we feel it is important to ensure inclement weather does not prevent family and friends from participating in the celebration. Thank you for your continued community support & collaboration.

SHS Students in Mrs. Henley’s honors physics class had the opportunity to “Skype with a Scientist” last week! They were matched with a computational astrophysicist named Bronson Messer, who is the director of science at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. ORNL is world-renowned for their scientific research and supercomputers. We were able to video chat with Dr. Messer via the iPad and projecting it onto the TV screen. Dr. Messer talked to the students about his career as an astrophysicist and how he got there. Students were interested to learn about the life and death of stars, especially what happens in a supernova and a black hole!
