The Voluntary Action Center is proud to partner with AdventHealth EMS to help provide a Merry Christmas to children living in Gordon County. In addition to providing toys and clothes for children, the will also provide a grocery gift card to each family to help with a Christmas Meal. SHS will be hosting our annual Veterans Day Parade and activities in November. We will be offering this shirt and encourage students to wear this for the parade. Order forms are available in Advisement, the Counseling Office or can be printed from this post. Order forms and cash or check payment are due by Wed. Oct. 26th.

The SHS Thespian Troupe will be collecting canned and non-perishable foods as well as monetary donations for the Blewer Food Bank October 17-31, 2022. 
The first block class raising the most will earn Chick-fil-A biscuits for their class on November 9th. Please bring all donations to the Chorus room each day to be counted. A total will be announced for the top three classes each day on the morning announcements! Winners will be announced on November 2nd!

The Marching Phoenix are the 2022 Blue Ridge Mountain Competition Silver Division Champions! The band competed yesterday at Fannin County High School and brought home a shelf full of hardware. Congratulations to the all the band members for their superior ratings, best in division band, best in division percussion, and best OVERALL Drum Majors. The Majorettes placed 2nd overall and the Color Guard placed 2nd in division. The band was also named first runner-up in the overall competition (A-AAAAA). The band will compete again on October 22nd at the Peach State Invitational in Rome.

Mrs. Ray’s Essentials of Healthcare class is learning about the cardiovascular system. We are dissecting hearts to learn the various structures of the heart and how the heart pumps blood through the body.

Mr. Palazzolo's Environmental Science students toured Mohawk Industries Light Lab and learned about sustainable manufacturing processes in the design and production of flooring products. Mohawk's Light Lab also utilizes virtual reality tools to showcase flooring concepts to customers.

SHS students attended the FBLA Fall Rally at Six Flags Monday. FBLA members competed in shirt design, recruitment poster, Georgia economics poster, financial math and business communications. These members had a fantastic time representing SHS at the event!

Mr. Palazzolo's Environmental Science students investigated how tributary waters create a watershed at Salacoa Creek Park. Students identified how the contours of land can allow runoff into a body of water.

Students in Mrs. Brookshire’s American Literature classes have been studying transcendentalism. After reading and analyzing excerpts from Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, students journeyed to the Sonoraville Pond and crafted their own original pieces of nature writing. On Monday night, 4 members of SHS SGA participated in the Meet the Candidates event sponsored by the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce.
