Gordon County Schools Senior Class of 2022:
Due to the inclement weather forecast throughout the week, the graduation ceremonies for both Sonoraville High School and Gordon Central High School are being changed and relocated with new dates or times. These changes are to ensure that as many family members and friends can actively participate in the ceremonies instead of having limited seating and online-only options.
The Class of 2022 for GCHS and SHS will celebrate their graduation ceremonies at the Dalton Convention Center on Wednesday, May 25th. Sonoraville High School will have its ceremony at 4:30 p.m. and Gordon Central will have its ceremony at 8:00 p.m. Sonoraville High School graduates will transition out of the Dalton Convention Center shortly after their ceremony ends, and Gordon Central High School graduates and families should arrive promptly at 7:00 p.m.
Bus transportation will be offered and provided for both high schools in the event of families being unable to drive to the Dalton Convention Center. The Dalton Convention Center is located at 2211 Tony Ingle Parkway, Dalton, GA. More information will come out tomorrow after all details have been discussed and finalized.
We appreciate our community’s understanding as Gordon County Schools continues to support and seek ways to ensure a larger audience has access to each child’s graduation ceremony.

SHS Senior Andrew Carey signed today with Georgia College to run cross country.

Congratulations to SHS Band senior Noel Luna for signing today to play cymbals for the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners Drumline. Celebrating today with Noel were his dad, Noel Luna Sr, Mr. Burke, members of the Marching Phoenix and SHS administrators.

Sonoraville High School is gearing up for summer break. While summer presents an opportunity to relax and enjoy the sunshine, we want our students to continue to find ways to learn while away from the classroom.
We have an exciting reading service available through Sora, the student reading app, which provides free 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks. Learn more about Sora and its perks for you and our students here: https://meet.soraapp.com/. What better way to engage a student’s mind than through reading?
Starting May 4 - August 17, 2022, the Sora Sweet Reads program will offer a collection of Juvenile and Young Adult titles that will be prominently displayed in Sora for quick and easy unlimited access. You can explore the title offerings and learn more about the program here: https://resources.overdrive.com/sora-sweet-reads/.

Sonoraville High School Named National Beta School of Merit
Gordon County Schools is proud to announce that Sonoraville High School is a 2021-2022 National Beta School of Merit. The school earned this recognition by offering National Beta to all eligible grades on their campus. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12.
The National Beta School of Merit award is given to honor a club’s dedication and commitment to academic excellence. To achieve this prestigious honor, a school must include members from all eligible grade levels in their Beta club. This year, only 3,380 Beta Clubs across the country received this award.
In a congratulatory letter to the school, Bobby Hart, CEO said “Thank you for your continued support of National Beta and commitment to developing future leaders!”
The SHS Beta Club is proud to receive this distinction. The SHS Beta Club community service projects included the Fall Semester Fired up Food Drive and Spring Semester Book Donation to Preschoolers. The Beta Club also made a donation to the VAC, provided board books for the new little Free Library, and sponsored a SHS pre-planning breakfast. They have sponsored Shop with a Phoenix teams since its inception and annually help two seniors with graduation expenses.
About National Beta
With more than 500,000 active members and 9,000 chapters nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, and fosters leadership skills. The National Beta program offers over $300,000 annually to its Senior Beta Members. Visit betaclub.org for more information.
