SHS Seniors attended the Dalton Probe Fair. There were over 40 colleges and universities on the campus of Dalton State. Probe is an annual program of college fairs and high school counselor workshops that are held throughout the state of Georgia. The program is managed by the Georgia Education Articulation Committee (GEAC), whose sole mission is to disseminate information and stimulate interest in post-secondary education for students in Georgia. Hundreds of colleges from across the nation attend Probe each year to reach thousands of Georgia high school juniors and seniors.

Congratulations to SHS Students: Hannah Jones, Will Dunnaway, Joe Dunnaway, and William Parish! These students recently achieved “master” status in the Georgia 4-H Food Challenge – which is a 1st place honor at the state level. As a result, these students won a trip to the national competition in Dallas, Tx. Please congratulate Joe, Will, Hannah, and William on this accomplishment.

August was a fun month for the Forensic Science classes. We learned the procedures for criminal investigation from the crime scene to the court room. The unit was completed by a visit from Lt. Detective Jay Johnston. Lt. Johnston came with a collection of items that he uses for crime scene investigations in Gordon County. He showed the students how to dust for latent prints, how to obtain DNA samples from suspects, and how to properly bag evidence. His visit helped our classes to see the real-world life of crime scene detectives in our area. We would like to thank Gordon County Sheriff’s Department for being willing to come out to Sonoraville High School and share their experience with us!

Last Wednesday, September 14, a group of SHS Chorus and Theatre students traveled to downtown Atlanta to the Rialto Center for the Arts and Georgia State University to participate in SingFest! 2022.
These students rehearsed 2 selections of SATB music beforehand and while at GSU, they were able to work with Dr. Deanna Joseph and Dr. Jennifer Sengin, who are both Choral conductors at the university. After so much uncertainty and so many cancellations during the Covid pandemic, it was a new and fresh experience for our SHS singers. At the end of the day of rehearsals and GSU Q&A sessions, and college performances, they were part of a mass choir of 400+ students from around Georgia as they performed on an afternoon concert alongside the GSU Choirs.
All 23 SHS singers had positive comments and were asking to attend again next year. This was a great opportunity for many of them to see and hear collegiate performers and get a feel for what GSU has to offer. Many upperclassmen came away wanting to know more about GSU as a possible college choice for the future!

SHS CTAE's Youth Organization Exhibit at NWGA Regional Fair won 2nd place. All entries had to have a theme displayed throughout the exhibit. Sonoraville chose "Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed" as the theme. The exhibit displayed student work, as well as artifacts from each of the CTAE Pathways available at SHS and the College and Career Academy. The CTAE Department will receive a $100 award for the exhibit's 2nd place finish. The NWGA Regional Fair opens tonight and runs through Sept. 17.
