September is Attendance Awareness Month! To celebrate school attendance, we will have a friendly competition among our schools. The school with the highest attendance percentage during the month of September will win an ice cream party. The school with highest attendance percentage on September 30th will receive an attendance trophy! Our theme for the 2022-2023 school year is #OneBIGFamily. We asked Christina Cote, third grade teacher at W.L. Swain Elementary and the 2022-2023 Swain Teacher of the Year, what it means to be part of our One BIG Family: “I am thankful that I am a part of Gordon County One Big Family because we are very supportive of one another. We encourage and support one another as teachers and in our classrooms. When there are needs in our classroom, whether it be curriculum or students, we can count on our coworkers and administrators to help. We want the best for each and every student and teacher. That is something that is very valuable in this field. As an example, one year I had larger class sizes and needed to complete an assessment for every student. I asked for help in assisting in getting the assessments completed and administration asked other teachers to come help. The specials teachers and ELL teacher gave up time from their planning to come help me so I could the assessments. They had a great attitude too as I was very appreciative of their time and help. It was so great knowing that others would help when we needed it.” #GoCoSchools #GETGCS

SONORAVILLE HIGH SCHOOL 2022-23 SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST Each SHS student will be provided a set of the following school supplies: notebook paper, pencils, mechanical pencils, 3-ring binder, ink pens, composition notebooks, subject dividers, highlighters, & graph paper. Classroom sets of supplies such as glue, scissors, markers, pencils, rulers, sticky notes, colored pencils, erasers, & index cards will be provided. Families may choose to purchase additional supplies such as a bookbag, earbuds, pencil pouch, &/or stylus as they see fit.

June 8th. You will need to go to the Sonoraville website to print your necessary paperwork or see Mrs. White in Student Services. On June 7th and 8th, you must have your valid driver’s license, the Parking Agreement, and the parent signed Random Drug Screen form to be able to reserve your spot. Should you be unavailable to be present during your scheduled time, only a parent, sibling or grandparent can reserve your spot. They will still need all the paperwork and a copy of your license. The cost is $30 for the year. You can pay online, with cash or check (make payable to “SHS” and in the Memo write “Parking” with the student’s name).

Gordon County Schools Senior Class of 2022: Due to the inclement weather forecast throughout the week, the graduation ceremonies for both Sonoraville High School and Gordon Central High School are being changed and relocated with new dates or times. These changes are to ensure that as many family members and friends can actively participate in the ceremonies instead of having limited seating and online-only options. The Class of 2022 for GCHS and SHS will celebrate their graduation ceremonies at the Dalton Convention Center on Wednesday, May 25th. Sonoraville High School will have its ceremony at 4:30 p.m. and Gordon Central will have its ceremony at 8:00 p.m. Sonoraville High School graduates will transition out of the Dalton Convention Center shortly after their ceremony ends, and Gordon Central High School graduates and families should arrive promptly at 7:00 p.m. Bus transportation will be offered and provided for both high schools in the event of families being unable to drive to the Dalton Convention Center. The Dalton Convention Center is located at 2211 Tony Ingle Parkway, Dalton, GA. More information will come out tomorrow after all details have been discussed and finalized. We appreciate our community’s understanding as Gordon County Schools continues to support and seek ways to ensure a larger audience has access to each child’s graduation ceremony.
