Fairmount Elementary Celebrates Apple Distinguished School Recognition Fairmount Elementary School celebrated being recognized as an Apple Distinguished School today with an exciting pep rally in the gym! This honor is given to schools that show leadership, creativity, and excellence in education by using Apple technology in their classrooms. The pep rally was a special event for the students and the community. It included performances by the Sonoraville High School cheerleaders and marching band. Phoenix athletes and video production students also joined the celebration, sharing the importance of this achievement and cheering on the Bulldogs. Sonoraville’s video production students played a key role in filming the submission video that helped Fairmount earn this recognition. Being named an Apple Distinguished School shows that Fairmount Elementary has created an exciting and successful learning environment that helps students thrive and achieve. Gordon County Schools would like to thank Dr. Patti Crane and Mike Kole from Apple for presenting the banner and plaque. We also want to recognize the hard work of the students and staff at Fairmount Elementary, as well as the leadership of Principal Rebecca Champion. Thank you to Instructional Technology Coordinator Whitney Prather for guiding the application process and sharing Fairmount’s story. Congratulations to Fairmount Elementary on this amazing achievement! The whole community is proud of you and excited to see the continued impact of your innovative teaching.

As part of their study of the Executive Branch, Mrs. Crow’s American Government classes recently memorialized former presidents by creating tombstones as part of a multi-part project in which they researched their life and presidency. Students wrote obituaries, created a memorial slideshow, and a tombstone to recognize the impact each of these presidents had on the United States. #TogetherSHS

Gordon County Schools proudly recognizes and celebrates the achievements of its four extraordinary 2024-2025 Georgia REACH Scholars: Jasmine Castillo, Sarai Moran Anguiano, Naythan Alvarez, and Wildon Garcia-Corado. These remarkable students were honored today for their commitment to academic excellence and their determination to build a brighter future. The REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Georgia Scholarship Program is a needs-based mentorship and scholarship initiative designed to ensure that academically promising students have the support they need to succeed in college and beyond. By becoming REACH Scholars, students pledge to uphold high academic standards, maintain excellent behavior, and work closely with mentors and graduation coaches as they prepare for post-secondary education. Upon completing the program, each scholar receives a scholarship to help make their college dreams a reality. The ceremony also recognized the vital role families, educators, and mentors play in shaping the future of these young leaders. Graduation coaches Jamey Angland from Gordon Central High School and Judy Craig from Sonoraville High School will work closely with the scholars, guiding them through this transformative journey throughout high school. Congratulations to Jasmine, Sarai, Naythan, and Wildon on this incredible achievement. We are confident that their dedication, supported by the REACH program and our community, will lead them to a future filled with limitless possibilities.
