Sonoraville High School Construction teacher and SkillsUSA Advisor Bo Dooley has his students preparing through a mock competition for upcoming region and state events. Mr. Dooley’s program has a strong record of competing at both the state and national levels, and students are working hard in areas such as masonry, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and more as they aim for another championship.

SkillsUSA competitions give students the opportunity to demonstrate their technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and hands-on abilities while competing against peers from across the state and nation. These events provide real-world experiences that prepare students for success in their future careers. #ExtraordinaryGCS #ExtraordinarySHS

On Saturday, the Red Bud Middle School Softball team made it to the BGMSAA Region Championship game for the 8th consecutive year! They fought hard but were ultimately defeated by Cartersville 5-3 in the Championship game. They had to defeat Woodland and Adairsville before making it to the finals.

We are very proud of these players and would like to thank the families, students, and several staff members of the Phoenix Nation for supporting us all season! Go Phoenix! #ExtraordinaryRBMS #ExtraordinaryGCS

We are excited to share that W.L. Swain Elementary has been named a 2025 Georgia Title I Reward School! This distinction places W.L. Swain among the top 5 percent of Title I schools in Georgia making the most progress in improving student performance.

Title I Reward Schools are identified by the Georgia Department of Education based on English Language Arts and Mathematics scores from statewide assessments. To earn this recognition, schools must demonstrate significant progress in raising achievement for the all-students subgroup when comparing content mastery scores over the most recent two years.

Being included on this list is a remarkable achievement that highlights effective teaching, strong leadership, and the dedication of students, families, and staff working together for success.

Congratulations to the entire W.L. Swain Elementary community on this outstanding honor!

Representatives from Helping Hands Ending Hunger visited Fairmount Elementary today to tour the school’s HHEH pantry and meet with student leaders who are making a difference in their community. They were welcomed by student ambassadors Lily Byars and Lily Waters, who both play an important role in the program.

Helping Hands Ending Hunger is a nonprofit organization that partners with schools to collect unused, unopened food from cafeterias and redistribute it directly to students and families in need. By reducing food waste and providing consistent access to nutritious meals, HHEH helps address food insecurity while also teaching students about leadership, service, and community responsibility. HHEH CEO Carla Harward joined the tour, along with Gordon County Schools Superintendent Mrs. Alice Mashburn, who shared how impactful this program has been for students and families across the district.

Fairmount Elementary principal Mrs. Rebecca Champion spoke about the importance of the program and how the community has come together to support it with parent volunteers, local donations, and the dedication of students. Counselor Judith Cunningham has also been instrumental in leading and organizing students as they help distribute food to families in need.

We are proud of our Fairmount Elementary students and staff for their commitment to serving others through Helping Hands Ending Hunger. Go Bulldogs!
