
Gordon County Schools has received a grant of $4,000 from the Calhoun-Gordon Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia (http://www.communityfoundationnwga.org) for our Helping Hands Ending Hunger Initiative!
Gordon County Schools has partnered with Helping Hands Ending Hunger to provide Gordon County families and students with nutritious food outside of the regular school day. In addition to providing breakfast and lunch at no cost to families in 2024-2025, 8 of our Gordon County Schools are helping those in need of meal choices at home through the Helping Hands Initiative.
Helping Hands Ending Hunger is made possible in part by this grant from the Calhoun-Gordon Community Foundation. Let's help end hunger TOGETHER! #TogetherGCS


Gordon County Schools District Family Engagement and Belwood Elementary Principal hosted The Family Dinner Project for Mrs. Chloe Bishop’s second grade class on Tuesday, November 19th.
The Family Dinner Project champions family dinner as an opportunity for family members to connect with each other through food, fun, and conversations that matter. Pictured are the winners of our family night game baskets. Dinner was provided by New Town Baptist Church.
Thank you to everyone who came out and participated, and we appreciate our partnership with New Town Baptist Church! We cannot have these great events without the support of our amazing community.

Congratulations to Bo Dooley of Sonoraville High School Construction and SkillsUSA for being selected to receive the prestigious Construction Ready Leadership in Education Champion Award! This well-deserved recognition honors Bo’s outstanding contributions to advancing the construction industry in Georgia and his dedication to preparing students for successful careers after high school.
Under Bo’s leadership, the SkillsUSA program has transformed countless students into career-ready professionals through a robust program of work that includes masonry, construction, electrical, plumbing, blueprint reading, and team collaboration. His commitment to excellence has developed multiple state champions over the years, and this year is no exception.
A special congratulations to the following first-place winners:

Chapel Parr – 1st Place in Carpentry
Clay Worley – 1st Place in Electrical
These accomplishments showcase the high caliber of instruction and mentorship Bo provides, as well as the incredible talent and hard work of his students. We are excited to celebrate his achievements at the 5th Annual Construction Ready Champions’ Awards Breakfast on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 7:30 AM at the Cobb Galleria.

"Thanks to Nicole’s initiative and organizational leadership, our summer eating program served over 333,000 breakfasts and lunches to children in need, extending critical support to families during the months when school is not in session. Additionally, Nicole spearheaded the application process that allows Gordon County students to eat at no cost through 2024-2027, removing barriers and creating a supportive environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed without worry about food access. The impact of her work is recognized through multiple awards, including the prestigious Golden Radish Award and the Farm to School Award. Nicole is genuinely dedicated to the well-being of her cafeteria managers and staff. Known for her huge heart and hands-on approach, Nicole frequently steps up to work on the front lines, whether it’s assisting with cooking, serving meals, or lending a hand during busy periods. Her supportive presence has created a strong, cohesive team of food service professionals who share her passion for serving our students and community."

Instructional Technology Coordinator Whitney Prather was at Belwood Elementary today talking to REACH teacher Tim Gilreath's students about the Georgia Student Technology Competition! There are a variety of areas students can compete in, including robotics, audio or video production, digital game design, and more!

At last night's Board of Education meeting, we recognized JROTC instructor Colonel Steinbrecher and his students Jesse Calderon, Anthony Pham, Jaden Cromer-Brock, and Abby Guertin for their Veterans Day Presentation of Colors. School Nutrition Director Nicole Head was also recognized for our school system winning the Georgia Farm to School Award.
