
SHS Forensic science classes completed an inquiry arson lab last week. They were asked to build a house to burn, then they had to investigate the burned house of another group. Thank you to Gordon County Fire Department for coming out and helping us!











Teaching As a Profession (TAP) students recreated the classrooms they are working in this semester and analyzed safety/mobility concerns. They also discussed the relationship between classroom setup and classroom management.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held September 13 and 14. You can schedule a conference with your child's advisor to discuss grades, graduation requirements, and other resources that SHS has available to you and your child.

FCCLA's officers attended DISCOVER Training in Covington at the FFA-FCCLA Center.
DISCOVER stands for "Developing Individual School Chapter Officers with Vision, Energy, and Responsibilities" and focuses on training chapter officers to be leaders in their family, school, and community.

Students at SHS are enjoying the “Be Pro Be Proud” tour today. This is an interactive exhibit that works to educate students on the importance of trade careers. Through virtual and augmented reality experiences, students test their abilities and skillsets to see if they have interest in one of the many technical careers available today.
The initiative works to close Georgia’s skilled professions gap by changing the way technical careers and training are perceived. Be Pro Be Proud Georgia will connect interested students with employers and training providers in need of their skillsets.

Sonoraville High School students were just recognized by @CollegeBoard National Recognition Programs for academic achievements in school and on assessments. We’re proud to celebrate Charlie Boyd, Ema Beckman, and Ella Kate Walraven and their hard work in high school. Doing the work is the hard part. Being recognized for it should be easy. And for students planning for life after high school, the award is an opportunity to get recognized by colleges that are actively looking for diverse talent.
All three students earned the National Rural and Small Town Award by scoring in the top 10% on the PSAT/NMSQT in the state of Georgia and having a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Additionally, Ema Beckman received the National Hispanic Recognition Award.
We are so proud of your hard work and achievement!


Students in Mrs. Brookshire’s Honors American Literature class conducted a gallery walk to define different types of logical fallacies. Students then worked together to identify real-world examples of logical fallacies used in advertising, speeches, and media.






Calhoun-Gordon County Youth Leadership applications are now live!
Calhoun/Gordon County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership is an annual training program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. The program aims to develop a group of informed, committed, and competent youth motivated to learn more about our community, to assume leadership roles in our schools and community, and to become more involved in our civic, cultural, economic development, and philanthropic organizations and groups. The goal of the program is that every young leader will be able to:
- Gain an awareness of the need for community service, civic participation, and philanthropy.
- Increase familiarity with areas and businesses in Calhoun/Gordon County beyond their immediate neighborhood and school.
- Interact with adult leaders in business, nonprofit and public sectors.
- Acquire a network of adult and youth leaders, which can form an excellent basis for their success in life, including both the work and college world.

SHS Forensic Science classes have been learning the skills that are required for crime scene investigation. They took on the role of a criminal master mind to create a crime scene full of evidence, and then channeled their NCIS skills to investigate and solve the case created by their peers.

Students in Mr. Townsend's class are graphing the rate of E. coli bacteria growth over a four-hour span.


Mrs. Brookshire’s American Literature classes wrote personal logo stories detailing positive, meaningful aspects about themselves. Students had the opportunity to share and workshop their stories with peer groups before producing their final drafts. At the conclusion of the activity, students wrote celebratory notes that addressed the merits of their classmates’ writing.
